R.C. Sproul: God accepts us just the way we are is a monstrous lie
The two great lies of a “Rockstar Pastor” are: “God will make us rich and happy” and “God accepts us just the way we are, sin and all.” As Christian apologetics R.C. Sproul puts it, “The preachers who smile benignly from the pulpit assuring us that God accepts us just “the way we are” tell a monstrous lie!“
“God loves the sinners.”
Sproul also criticized the pastors who perpetuate the lie that “God hates the sin and loves the sinners!.” God hates sin, but sinners will be punished in hell forever. Such truth is often ignored in the pulpit in place of cheap grace.
However, the Bible also says, “God loved us while we were sinners,” but it is important to qualify the “us.” Only believers who put their faith in Christ are forgiven—not everyone. Hence, we cannot be Christians and remain in sin at the same time because, at some point in a Christian’s life, transformation will be evident.
The way we are, which is innately sinful, has no place in heaven. A true follower of Jesus departs from evil to good and pursues peace (Psalm 34).
- God loves His children and won’t allow them to continue living a sinful lifestyle.
- God is Holy, and sin has no place in heaven.
- God is Just, and He will punish the wicked.
- God is Love, and He will discipline His children.
We cannot be Christians and remain in sin at the same time.
1. God is Holy
We are made righteous before God through Jesus. Our body is God’s “holy temple.” Adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, pornography, or transgenderism has no place in heaven or our mortal bodies.
Pursue peace with everyone and holiness — without it, no one will see the Lord.
2. God is Just
If a court judge lets go of a criminal, is he a just judge? God is just and perfect. He stays true to His words, which means He has to punish the wicked, the immoral, and those who mock Him.
The wrongdoer will be paid back for whatever wrong he has done, and there is no favoritism.
3. God is Love
The only means we can escape God’s judgment is through Christ. God turned His face away from His begotten son so He could carry our sins and face God’s wrath by dying on the cross. He has risen, and we are cleansed. Believe, and receive Jesus!
God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
