How Can a Christian Overcome Porn, Masturbation, Lustful Thoughts?

What can a Christian do to overcome porn, masturbation, lustful thoughts?

1. Die daily and live for Christ

Can you ask a person buried in a cemetery to respond to a question? Of course not! Just like dead people, we’re supposed to be “dead in our transgression” but alive in Christ (Ephesians 2:5). Temptations will always chase us. Stay away from it like what Joseph, son of Jacob, did.

Each time sin calls, ignore it like a “dead person”

It begins by changing your mind about sin (daily repentance). Stop feeding your sinful desires by removing triggers like a laptop or mobile phone in your bedroom.

James 4:7
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Stop feeding your sinful desires.

2. Look at the cross of Christ!

Our sins have been crucified with Christ, but our sinful nature remains. There’s nothing good in us except Jesus, and He alone can replace our sinful heart. It begins by knowing Christ, the author, and the perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)

When we immerse ourselves with God’s words every day, temptation has little power because the WORD of God gives us victory over ANY sin.

Romans 10:17
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

When we immerse ourselves with God’s words every day, temptation has little power

3. Ask God to have the “mind of Christ”

Our sinful nature will always choose worldliness because nothing is good in our flesh (Romans 7:18). Until Christ transforms us into a glorified body, our fleshly desires remain, though we are saved.

Our “sinful nature” is overtaken when we have the “mind of Christ.” Sin loses its luster, and the devil flees! (James 4:7). That is why we must dwell in the goodness of the Lord.

If our faith is genuine, there is “daily repentance” (Metanoia). The word “repent” is more than saying sorry, doing penance, or not sinning. It is a radical change of mind that transforms our behavior.

dwell in the goodness of the Lord.

Remember, our enemy Satan wants us broken so he can accuse us before God. He will have a reason to accuse us. Sin can disable if you do not know who you are in Christ. We have victory in Christ—stand up and carry your cross daily!
