Gender dysphoria facts
1. A mental condition that affects a tiny portion of society
Gender dysphoria is real. It is a severe discomfort in one’s biological sex—which was rare until about 2007. The condition is found in less than .01 percent of the population or 1 in every 10,000 ratios, and it’s mostly males.
2. Suicide rates did not decrease even after sex reassignment
Suicide rates continued among transgender people, even if they had sex-reassignment surgery. A study in 2019 in the American Journal of Psychiatry concludes there is “no advantage of [reassignment] surgery.”
3. About 80% outgrow gender dysphoria
Studies reported children with gender dysphoria outgrow them. A follow-up study from childhood to adolescence found desistance rates ranging from 61% to 98%. [PubMed]
