Is Kanye West a real Christian?

Kanye has spoken against premarital sex, porn, and declares he fears and loves God. He is spreading the Gospel like wildfire. Nothing is impossible with God when we allow Jesus to transform us.

Is Kanye West’s Christian conversion for real or for profit?

The short answer is NO. Although he expressed his faith in Christ, that all changed a few years later, revealing the true intent of his heart.

Kanye Omari West, or “Ye,” is a rapper, singer, and songwriter who is one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He is the most Grammy-awarded artist and twice was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people. He is married to Kim Kardashian, who is famous for her voluptuous outfits.

They’re Hollywood’s power couple. Kanye alone is worth 240 Million. With almost 30 million followers, he could be a formidable preacher just by tweeting.

In a 2024 interview, Kanye West renounced Christianity. Instead, he went to the other end by saying he wanted to venture into adult film. “You know, I have my issues with Jesus. There’s a lot of stuff I went through that I prayed, and I ain’t see Jesus show up,” he said.

Full of himself: Kanye and Taylor Swift in 2009

The incident at the VMAs in 2009 tops Kanye’s notoriety. Taylor Swift won the Best Female Video over Beyonce’s “Single Ladies.” As Swift began her acceptance speech, West dashed and took the mic to say that Beyoncé deserved the award.

The same thing happened in 2005 when he lost at the MTV Europe Music Awards. The arrogant Kanye took the mic and ranted for not winning. In 2013, he released the blasphemous “Yeezus” album, with a track titled “I Am a God.”

Suffering from depression

After his mother died in 2007, he suffered a vicious cycle of depression and was addicted to opioids. His mental state became unstable for a time.

In 2016, Kanye was admitted to the UCLA Medical Center with hallucinations and paranoia, characterized by psychosis, although it was temporary. In 2014, he shocked everyone when he referred to himself as a Christian during a concert.

Are we seeing God’s hand or more blasphemies from West?

Kanye can be a strong symbol of hope for the Black community. For decades, they have been plagued with drugs, violence, and poverty.

Recently, Kanye told a crowd at George Washington University: “I want to let you know that I am not here for your entertainment. We are here to spread the Gospel.” It seems that many Blacks responded to his call to sexual purity, righteous living, and faith in Jesus.

Out of the box preaching: But is it effective?

Kanye’s ways of sharing the Gospel are unconventional. His wife Kim told Jimmy Kimmel, “There’s no praying, there’s no sermon, no word, just music, and just a feeling—and it’s Christian.”

Brad Pitt, Jaden Smith, and Justin Bieber joined Kanye in some services. It could be just a fad, but it could also be how God is reaching this particular generation. God’s love is real to anyone who believes in Jesus and follows Him. Kanye will indeed bear fruit if he has the real thing.

Effective or not, what is clear is that Kanye West acknowledges in public who Jesus is, according to scriptures. Apparently, many have come to Christ out of his unorthodox way of spreading the Gospel.

Philippians 1:18
“But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this, I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice…” – Apostle Paul.

He asked collaborators to fast & not have premarital sex.

Kanye released a Christian album, Jesus Is King,” on October 25. This YouTube video reached 1 million views in 24 hours. As a result of the album’s message, Google search for “King Jesus” also spiked.

Jesus Is King album debuted at No. 1

A few weeks after Kanye released his first Gospel Album, Jesus Is King debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Before the release, he asked his collaborators to fast and not have premarital sex while working on the album.

Career suicide with Trump?

In a bold move that could destroy his career, he announced that he was on President Trump’s team in 2019; it divided his Democrat and Republican fans.

Interestingly, left-liberals (Democrat atheists) hate Trump. Witches even cast spells against the former president, and his most outspoken supporters continue to be canceled—even after he left office.

Struggling with Kim Kardashian’s sexy outfits

The Kardashian lifestyle is a perfect example of how “not to dress as a Christian.” Kim’s step-dad, Caitlyn Jenner, a female transgender person, doesn’t fit with Christian values.

That’s tough for West, but in October 2019, Kanye confronted his wife, Kim, over her sexy outfits. At E! ‘s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” Kanye realized that her looks negatively affected his “soul and spirit,” he told Buzzfeed.

Kanye’s “Christian Album” in 2022

In 2019, Kanye claimed to have been fully “converted to Christianity” and would only sing Gospel songs. In 2022, he released a new album, Donda 2, which was released less than six months earlier.

Kanye’s new album didn’t necessarily promise another run at gospel music, but perhaps its apparent covert Christian branding may be the point.

Donda is the name of his mother, whose death heavily affected West. One of the songs, “Come to Life,” in Donda, is a beautiful song about love and hope. The lyrics begin with praising God.

Come to Life, Donda Album
My soul cries out, “Hallelujah”
And I thank God for saving me
I, I thank God

Bottomline, we can only pray for Kanye

Recently, his wife Kim filed for divorce in February 2021. Their legal battle is ongoing, but it could be good for him. After all, God is never done with us. He afflicts and purges those whom He receives as His child.

Pastor Chris Priestley of Crossroads WV puts it this way; “If Kanye West thinks for ONE second that calling on the name of Jesus will somehow forgive a lifetime of misogyny, blasphemy, profanity, and sexual immorality, he’s absolutely RIGHT!” (1 Timothy 1:15)

Instead of criticizing his flawed life, Christians must pray more for people like Kanye West. He needs it, just as we all need someone to pray for us.

Philippians 1:6
“He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

God is never done with us.
