Patriarchy in the Biblical: Commentary by Dr. Voddie Baucham
Pastor Voddie Baucham teaches that biblical patriarchy is based on the belief that men should be the heads of households and the church, with women called to submit to their husbands’ leadership. He emphasizes gender roles, with men as providers and leaders and women as supporters and nurturers.
However, Biblical patriarchy is being muddled by liberal evangelicals saying that patriarchy results from Eve’s sin and that with Christ, man’s role to rule over women and women to submit is obsolete.
Baucham rejects evangelical feminism and unapologetically supports the Bible’s teachings on hierarchy as God’s design. He emphasizes that patriarchy, in his view, is not a moral issue but rather a matter of order.
Two Heads is a monster
Baucham quipped anything that has two heads has a monster. His point is clear, God designed man to be the headship, and Christians should neither soften nor apologize for what the Bible says.
The Bible teaches that there is a concept of headship and submission within the context of marriage, with wives being called to submit to their husbands as they would to the Lord.
