School Club hosts anti-depression seminar in Pasay

Seminar on Overcoming Depression in Pasay

John15.Rocks School Club in Pasay had its first seminar titled ‘Dear Stress Lets Break Up!’ last November 29, 2018. The event was successfully attended by a hundred people. Despite the limitations of the club, the make-shift venue of the City University of Pasay corridor was a hit!

The school was gracious to lend chairs and a simple sound system that helped make it a success. Members of J15 School Club pitched in to decorate the make-shift stage, in a section of the corridor, where the special guest of the speaker did her talk.

Club President, Sarah Alarcon, led the opening prayer and Professor Cleofe Castor, the school registrar, gave the opening remarks and shared insights on how to prevent depression. As a special treat, the CUP Glee Club led the singing for the anthem and a special number.

The club officers created the “groupie post” that hopes to energize its members, group themselves, and upload their photos on social media with the hashtag #OvercomingDepressionSeminar and #dearstressletsbreakup.

Special guest speaker, Ms. Jessa Catle shared her inspiring first-hand experience on struggling with depression, and how she coped and managed it. Ms Catle shared mistakes and opened up the realization that no one should bear the struggle Alone.

“Mahirap mag-isa, kailangan ng kadamay, pero ang tutulong talaga sayo ay si Hesus,” (It’s difficult to be alone, you need someone beside you, but it’s only Jesus who can truly help you), she said.

If you know someone suffering from depression, let us know how we can help

Love and attention is a basic human need

Most depressions are rooted in relationships or lack of it. Unfortunately, many fall for the wrong person to be happy because we’re desperate to be loved or accepted. At best, seldom do we find this kind of person because we are “all” broken inside. We have a vacuum in our heart that only God can fill, but many refuse Him. This is why we need to tell everyone who Jesus is. He came so we can have an abundant life. (John 10:10)
