7-Most Important Bible Verses for Anxiety Disorder and Deep Depression

Are you always under the weather?

Millions of people suffer from varying forms of chronic depression or anxiety disorder. Psychologists have many labels for it. For example, neurosis is described today as ‘Anxiety Disorder.’ These are extreme sadness, hysteria, OCD, irritability, or low self-worth, and there’s no known cure.

On the one hand, neuroticism is a trait of having unstable emotions. As such, a minor frustration can trigger overwhelming anxiety or irritability. It’s also present in Intermittent Explosive Disorder.

The end-stage of these mental problems might as well be anhedonia. It is a sense of complete emotional defeat and withdrawal from people, perhaps caused by lingering chronic depression or dysthymia.

For the most part, these are “depressive demonic spirits” that can oppress even Christians. In all forms of emotional struggles, apart from Jesus, we cannot “bear fruit” and have peace and joy.

Regardless of the label, these are “battles in mind.” Having the “mind of Christ” eases the pain and leads to victory.

1. God’s command

Joshua 1:9
This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged…

2. Trust and seek God’s will

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

3. Trust and find new strength

Isaiah 40:31
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

4. Cast your anxiety

1 Peter 5:7
… cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares about you.

5. Pray and be thankful

Philippians 4:6-7
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.

His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

6. Resist anxiety by submitting to God

James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

7. Accept God’s will, even in difficult problems

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In everything, give thanks… for this is God’s will for you in Christ.”
