Who is the Holy Spirit in the Bible

  • In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. He is the Spirit of God, hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1-2)
  • The Spirit of God is the Spirit of His Son, Jesus. (Galatians 4:6)
  • The Spirit of the Lord rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of Jehovah. (Isaiah 11:2)
  • Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit which we have from God. (1 Corinthians 6:19)

The role of the Holy Spirit in the Bible

  • The Holy Spirit tells us the truth and revelations. (John 16:13)
  • He is our helper who God sent in Jesus’ name to teach all things He preached to His disciples. (John 14:26)
  • The Spirit intercedes and helps us in our weakness especially when we do not know what to pray for. (Romans 8:26)
  • The Holy Spirit seals the promise of salvation through Christ. (Ephesians 1:13)

What are the Powers of the Holy Spirit

  • The Spirit knows our deepest thoughts. (1 Corinthians 2:10-11)
  • God through the power of the Holy Spirit fills us with joy, peace, and hope. (Romans 15:13)
  • The Holy Spirit convicts (unbelievers ) of their sin, the coming judgment, and righteousness to those who believe in Him. (John 16:7-15)
  • They Holy Spirit replaces our “heart of stone” if we are careful to obey God. (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
  • The Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead will give us eternal life. (Romans 8:11)
  • The Holy Spirit gave the power to do signs and wonders to the apostles, so they can preach the gospel. (Romans 15:19)

How do we receive the powers of the Holy Spirit

  • Jesus sends the Holy Spirit so believers can witness for Him. (Acts 1:8)
  • Peter said we must repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness sins, and we will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
  • If we love Jesus and keep His commands, He sends us the Holy Spirit as our helper to dwell in us forever. (John 14:15-17)
  • The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
