About Helping Hands
The group began with a burden from a young woman who saw the need to help children in Olongapo City. In 1998, Claire Goudy from Moira Pentecostal Church in Northern Ireland spent six months at an outreach center children’s home in Subic Bay.
Goudy ended up staying for nearly three years in the Philippines. Four years after, Claire started Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries, Philippines, Inc., originally stationed at James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital, Olongapo City.
Claire, with some volunteers, cared for sick and dying children, their siblings, and their parents by staying with them as “Bantay” while the patient’s guardian goes home to rest. Eventually, the volunteer work expanded to counseling, free medicine, and social work for children.
